Volunteer With Us

Should you be interested in joining HBVEMS there are a number of ways to get involved.

Medical Volunteers

You will require the following qualifications / characteristics

* A minimum medical qualification of Basic Ambulance Assistant and registration with the HPCSA.
This is a Basic Life Support level qualification and is the result of a full time 5 week course. Both St Johns (021 461-8420) and Ambutek offer the BAA course. Cape Peninsula University of Technology offer a number of emergency medicine degrees

*A code 8 or 10 drivers license

* Commitment
Active members are required to work one full shift in each 3 week rotation

* The right personality
Members volunteer their time and services and expect nothing in return. You must be willing to deal with unpleasant situations to help those less fortunate than ourselves.
We are looking for caring, motivated individuals to join the team

Should you wish to see for yourself exactly what working on the ambulance entails please contact our recruitment officer and, if possible, you may be allowed an observer shift on the vehicle.
All members can expect the full support of the organisation and its members. Crews are always happy to teach new members the ropes!
